2008
Film Contest for Sustainable Tourism
- On the occasion of the International Tourism Exchange (ITB) the awarding
ceremony for the TOURA D'OR Film Contest for Sustainable Tourism will
take place in Berlin in March 2009. In May 2008 the TOURA D'OR was announced
for the tenth time.
- The way people choose their travel destination and the holiday attitudes
are influenced also by the audio-visual media. The TOURA
D´OR honours film productions which stand for a socially responsible,
environmentally compatible and sustainable tourism.
Films can thus be entered for the contest which
- promote a kind of tourism that minimizes harmful effects on people,
society, culture and nature of the host countries,
- encourage travellers to cast an eye behind the tourist scene so
as to better understand the everyday reality of the host countries,
- encourage the tourists to seek the encounter with the population
of the host country on the basis of mutual respect,
- assist people
in adopting an appropriate and sensitive attitude towards the country
and its people,
- illustrate positive
examples for socially responsible, environmentally compatible and
therefore sustainable tourism projects and tourism offers,
- critically,
yet constructively assess and deal with negative aspects and impacts
of tourism.
At least one of
the above mentioned criteria must be met.
- The organizer
of the contest is the Studienkreis für Tourismus und Entwicklung,
Ammerland (Institute for Tourism and Development). Since 1990 the contest has been supported among others by the following organizations/institutions:
- The following categories of tourism-related films are admitted to
be entered for the contest:
- Informational films and documentaries
- Promotion films and advertising spots
- Magazine and service contributions
- Other kinds of productions (e.g. feature films).
No amateur films may be entered for the contest.
- Only technically excellent contributions in the format VHS/PAL and DVDs in English
or German will be accepted.
- The production/contribution submitted for the contest should have
been completed in the year of the contest or within the last two years
(2006, 2007, 2008). Productions which have already been submitted to
other contests are also accepted.
- Within the framework of the contest and related to the award ceremony,
to information and promotion events, the entrant grants the organizer
the right to present the submitted contest contributions in public. This
also includes the right of presentation of the award ceremony short cuts onto the TOURA D'OR-website
of the Studienkreis at a later point in time.
The entrant holds the organizer harmless against any claims by third parties.
- Prizes will be awarded for the best performances in the four categories
(item 4). The prize consists of a trophy and a Honorary Certificate
and will be presented to the person having commissioned or produced
the contribution. In the absence of prize-worthy entries no award will
be made. A prize can also be awarded for specific achievements on the
part of the film makers (author, camera, director).
- Up to three productions each in the categories mentioned in item
4 are entered for the final selection. The decision on the prize award
rests with a jury. Should there be more contributions a selection committee,
after having screened them, will decide which ones will be entered for
the final selection. The jury and the selection committee will act on
the basis of guidelines laid down. The jury comprises representatives
of various fields (among others adult education, advertising, journalism, tourism
industry, tourism research, producers and film makers).
- Applications for the submission of productions/contributions have
to be forwarded on the attached application form by September 30,
2008. Additional forms can be obtained from the

The applying participants should include a list of other films ordered/produced
by them.
- The entered productions/contributions must reach the Studienkreis
für Tourismus und Entwicklung (address see item 10) by October 15,
2008.
- The dispatch is effected at the entrant's own risk and he also covers
the transportation costs. The legal regulations in force apply in this
case. The organizer of the contest cannot be made responsible for any
loss or damage whatsoever.
- The contribution submitted will be returned after the contest
to the address given in the application form.
- The award winners will be informed by the contest organizer by January
31, 2009 at the latest, and they will be invited to attend the awarding
ceremony (see item 7/8).
- With the application the entrant acknowledges the conditions of participation.
Legal proceedings are barred.
